Rather than trying to block all the possible attacks it's important to actively seek threats that may already be inside the network. That means having tools that actively seek potential threats that are already inside your firewall. For healthcare providers, this means looking for unusual activity. This could indicate that an email account has been compromised, as that type of data is not usually shared between those two parties.
New methods for breaching systems, often called attack vectors, are constantly being created by criminals. Trying to keep up with the latest types of attacks is not easy, but there are threat feeds and other types of intelligence from external parties that not only keep healthcare providers informed, but help them detect when the risk of a new type of attack is rising so that appropriate counter-measures can be put in place.
Rather than waiting to become a victim, hospitals, doctor's offices and other healthcare facilities can get on the front foot and hunt for threats before they escalate and become cyber incidents.
Protecting healthcare data is about more than ensuring data is as well-protected as possible when it's at rest and when it's in transit. It's about proactively looking for where the risks are, then taking active steps to mitigate those potential losses and any unauthorised access.

Despite anti-fraud measures such as ultraviolet ink marking and holographic overlays, a growing underground economy of sites has emerged for criminals looking to obtain and use fraudulent US ID cards according to new research from Flashpoint.
Although only few of these sites can deliver quality fraudulent reproductions, there are some sites with high ratings and positive reviews that can deliver cards which will bypass the security measures protecting legitimate government-issued cards.
Fake ID cards pose a threat to facilities that scan IDs for entry as well as businesses such as banks and other financial institutions that rely on Know Your Customer requirements to verify the identity of customers.
Legitimate identification cards in the US contain complex fraud-protection measures such as the stars on REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses or properly formatted scannable barcodes. These IDs are also made of specific materials that are durable and transmit light in order to support these security measures.
Fake IDs
Flashpoint's research found that vendors running some of the highest-rated illicit shops will advertise their ability to replicate the security features found on identification cards including correctly formatted barcodes, certain micro-printing or laser perforations. For example, a proper barcode is often enough to allow entrance into access-controlled facilities such as government buildings, schools or corporate offices.
The availability of high-end printers is one factor that has helped facilitate these fraudulent reproductions by cybercriminals. An ordinary office photo printer has the capability to reproduce quality products, while laminating machines and plastic card printers are also easy to obtain and use. Ultraviolet ink and other supplies are also available on the open market for anyone to purchase.
Transactions conducted at these fake ID marketplaces are generally carried out via cryptocurrency to protect the privacy of both buyers and sellers and the deliver of a high-quality fake ID can take anywhere from five days to three weeks.
Although even the best fake IDs will likely be detected once they're checked against law enforcement or a DMV database, many of these IDs will be able to pass the inspection of untrained security personnel and a number of off-the-shelf barcode readers.
To prevent falling victim to someone using a fake ID, Flashpoint recommends mandating background checks through a law enforcement agency for new employees and employee training to help spot phony IDs.

A security researcher has released a new jailbreak which impacts all of Apple's mobile devices released between 2011 and 2017 including iPhone models from the 4S up to the iPhone 8 and even the iPhone X.
However, this jailbreak differs from those released in the past because it utilizes a new unpatchable exploit called Checkm8 that exploits vulnerabilities in Apple's Bootrom (secure boot ROM) to give iOS users full control over their devices.
The Checkm8 vulnerability was published by a security researcher called AxiomX who explained to ZDNet that he had worked on the jailbreak all year.
AxiomX said on Twitter that Checkm8 is “a permanent unpatchable bootrom exploit” which means this jailbreak is far more extensive and efficient than those previously released for Apple's iPhone.
Bootrom jailbreak
In addition to being quite rare, bootrom jailbreaks are also permanent and can't be fixed with a patch. To fix a Bootrom vulnerability permanently would require a silicon revision and even a company as large as Apple would not want to issue a mass recall for iPhones just to modify device chipsets.
This means that the Checkm8 jailbreak is permanent and will work in perpetuity on the devices that have installed it. The last time a Bootrom-based jailbreak was released was back in 2009 and many believed that Apple had managed to secure its boot-up process and make these types of jailbreaks impossible since that time.
AxiomX's jailbreak is currently available on GitHub as a beta release though technical skills are required to install it as it has the potential to easily brick devices.
While a jailbreak of this kind could be used to install unofficial apps on iPhones, the Checkm8 vulnerability could also be exploited by hackers to root devices but this would require physical access to a device.

In a recent blog post, the company explained why WARP's launch was delayed, saying that: “building a next generation service to secure consumer mobile connections without slowing them down or burning battery was... harder than we originally thought”.
Cloudflare was also surprised by the reception its new VPN service received and before its launch, two million people had signed up to be on the wait list to try WARP.
Interested users can download and start using WARP on their iOS or Android devices for free starting today. Cloudflare is also making amends to those who signed up but weren't able to try out the service for themselves by giving 10GB of the paid version of WARP, WARP Plus to those how have been patiently waiting for its release.
WARP Plus
In addition to being a product, WARP is also a testbed for all of the internet-improving technology Cloudflare has spent years developing. The company's Argo routing technology allows users to utilize faster, less-congested routes to send their traffic through the internet. Cloudflare customers have been using the technology for the past few years and Argo has improved the speed of their websites by an average of over 30 percent.
This technology is now available to everyone though through Warp Plus. Since routing users' internet traffic through Cloudflare's network costs the company more, the paid version of WARP costs users $4.99 or less as the fee depends on which region you're in and the company has tried to keep the cost of its monthly subscription approximate to what a Big Mac would cost in the same region.
Basic WARP is free to use and the company's first priority is not to make money from the service but to help secure every single smartphone user secure their device while outside of their homes. To help WARP gain new users, Cloudflare has an incentive where those who share the app with their friends can earn 1GB of free WARP Plus and this offer also extends to those who are referred as well.
The company is also trying to set itself apart from other not so reputable free security tools by including the strong privacy protections from 1.1.1.1 with WARP. This means that the Cloudflare won't write user-identifiable log data to disk and it won't sell your browsing data or use it for targeted advertisements. WARP will not require users to provide any personal information and Cloudflare has said that it will work with outside auditors to ensure its living up to its claims.
While WARP is a VPN, the service is not designed to bypass region blocks or hide your IP address. Instead, the service is built for the average consumer to ensure their data is secured while it's in transit.
